Poland - Missionary Congress for the 150th Anniversary of the Salesian Missions
Warsaw, Poland - November 2025 - On 7 and 8 November, the Missionary Congress for the 150th Anniversary of the Salesian Missions was held at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, attended by about 500 people from all over Salesian Poland. The event was held with the aim of renewing the missionary spirit in the Church and in the Salesian Congregation. The first day was marked by historical conferences on missionary themes. The speakers talked, among other things, about the activities of Polish missionaries abroad, the presence of the mission in literature and art, Cardinal August Hlond SDB, the charismatic mission of Polish missionaries, and Saint Maria Troncatti. On the second day, missionaries and volunteers shared their testimonies in reference to the 150th anniversary of the Salesian missions, and there was a round table discussion with missionaries from Zambia, Malawi, and South Sudan. There was also a series of mission workshops where everyone, regardless of age, could actively learn about different cultures and missionary experiences. The highlight of the Congress was the Jubilee Holy Mass. ‘We want to look back with gratitude on what has passed, but also ask where the Holy Spirit is leading us today - into new realities, into a world that often needs missionaries more than ever,’ emphasised Fr Tadeusz Jarecki SDB, Superior of the Warsaw Province.
